Textured Vegetable Protein - TVP
TVP is derived from soya beans and is a fantastic meat substitute for a multitude of meals. TVP tastes great and is available in two kinds - light and dark. There is no difference between them except that the dark TVP has been coloured with a little caramel to make it look even more like mince. In short TVP is a wonder food.
Per 100g, TVP has 47g of Protein little fat (1.2g) and 17.5 of fibre. It's really easy to prepare - just place 1 cup of TVP into a bowl, pour boiling water over, cover with a tea towel and let sit until rehydrated. Takes approximately 5-10 minutes. Drain and squeeze out water.
See our recipe section for a fabulous bolognaise sauce using TVP.
